Dragon Trails in Norwich, 2024

We created two new Dragon Trails in Norwich, with two groups of young people, for the Summer holidays.

Quest for the Missing Dragon at Dragon Hall

The National Centre for Writing commissioned us to create a new trail round their historic building, Dragon Hall, which had recently been opened to the public. They wanted a creative interpretation of the history of Dragon Hall, and to include young people in the design of it.

This was part of their ‘Stepping into Dragon Hall’ project. Read their full report here.

We took inspiration from the 13 dragons that once decorated the Great Hall, and the one remaining dragon, as the focus of our trail. We worked with a group of 8 young people to design and draw 12 of the missing dragons, and created an activity for the public to create the final missing dragon.

Over three, three-hour workshops, the group learnt about character design, the history of Dragon Hall and how to combine them into a new dragon. Each participant designed and drew one or two dragons, and wrote a description combining creative writing and historical facts. These then became part of the trail.

The trail included a map, descriptions and images of each dragon, a Quest activity to create the final missing dragon, fabric banners to install around Dragon Hall for the public to find, and two colouring sheets.

A Dragon’s Trail

We were commissioned by Norfolk Heritage Centre to illustrate and design a guide for a dragon trail round Norwich, written by their Young Heritage Collective. It ended at Dragon Hall, where our other trail was installed.
