Quests

We’ve created drawing and worldbuilding quests to help you explore your imagination, find new ideas and inspiration and build your own worlds, characters and stories. The monthly quests include access to our wonderful worldbuilding community on Discord.

About The Quests

The quests are designed to give you new ways of collecting ideas and inspiration, and encourage you to imagine and draw unexpected things.

You can use the quests to develop your own worlds, create new ones or use the random idea generator to choose one for you. You could also use your favourite worlds from tv, film, books or comics.

Who's it for?

The quests are designed to be open-ended and compliment all skill levels, including beginners. They are ideal for:

  • People interested in drawing and inventing new people, places and things.

  • Artists, designers and other creatives seeking a new challenge.

  • Larpers looking for new ideas for events, character quirks and prop design.

  • Games masters and players keen to add new details to their games and characters.

Each Quest includes:

  • Random idea generator and playful ways to find new ideas and inspiration

  • Questions or advice to help you flesh out your idea and design.

  • Examples with notes about our thinking and design process.

  • A link to online inspiration and additional reading if you’d like to dive deeper.

  • Sometimes we'll also include a playlist of songs to make the experience more immersive.

Quests can be enjoyed at home or when you're out and about. They're usually pocket sized and only require a pencil and paper. You can spend as little or as long as you like on each quest, and you can choose how far to take your ideas. You could create a few notes and sketches, or an entire scale model or comic.

We focus on soft worldbuilding and the methods to make more flexible worlds driven by themes, emotions and atmosphere. Personally we love this approach, and it’s a great way to start your worldbuilding journey. It allows you to find and try all sorts of ideas without any rules, and to figure out what you like and don’t like. What you create can be used in both soft and hard worldbuilding, like roleplaying games, larp, comics, written stories and cosplay.

What is Worldbuilding?

Worldbuilding is the process of constructing imaginary worlds. This can include inventing new creatures, characters, environments, cultures, stories and histories. Worldbuilding exists in video games, tabletop games, tv shows, films, books and other popular culture.

Worldbuilding is a large part of our lives. It provides escapism, a way to understand our experiences and to empathise with others, and it grows our imaginations, ambitions and emotions.
