Fantasy: Realms of Imagination, 2023-2024
Commissioned by Norfolk Heritage Centre and Norfolk Libraries, we created a programme of free events, workshops and activities for the 'Fantasy: Realms of Imagination' touring exhibition, from the Living Knowledge Network and the British Library.
Activities included:
Character design workshop for the ‘History Hunters’ group, ages 9-11.
Drop-in character design workshop at the ‘Fantasy Fandom Fest’ at Norwich Millennium Library.
Two character design short courses at Norwich Millennium Library and Costessey Library, for ages 16-25.
A comic design short course at Hellesdon Library, for ages 16-25.
Drop-in mapmaking workshop for Norfolk Makers Festival 2024.
A free eight-page newspaper of fantasy drawing and worldbuilding activities.
A zine of participants’ work.
We wrote, designed and illustrated an eight-page newspaper of drawing and worldbuilding activities, inspired by Norfolk folklore and Norfolk Heritage Centre’s archives, for adventurers ages 14-1400. 500 free copies have been distributed through Norfolk Libraries and our events.
Our newspaper was featured in the Newspaper Club’s May 2024 round-up.
Funded by Arts Council England and Anguish's Educational Foundation.
“Norfolk Heritage Centre had the pleasure of working with Jaz and Ben from Wayward Adventurers Guild on the “Fantasy: Realms of Imagination” project in 2023-24. From the project’s inception, they were brilliant to work with – great communicators, paid close attention to our brief, were incredibly creative with ideas, and their workshop delivery was of the highest level. WAG delivered a series of comic design and character design workshops, as well as having input into event days, and Jaz created a bespoke project newspaper and zine which were fantastic! They are both remarkably skilled in bringing people together; expertly communicating their love for and knowledge of world-building and fantasy in a way that is entirely accessible and engaging for all. I was delighted to be able to recommend WAG to colleagues and we continued our work with them throughout 2024, with a custom Norwich Dragons trail and a series of events for the Summer Reading Challenge. I hope we can continue this partnership for a long time to come.” -Rachel Ridealgh, Norfolk Heritage Centre
